Dealing With Emotions – Part 2

images (36)So let’s try to confront those emotions instead of ignore them. A diary is one way of writing down the stuff that happens each day and becoming more aware of what you’re feeling and why you’re feeling it. You might ask yourself questions about what you are feeling, what those feelings make you want to do and what the triggers were for these particular emotions. Other things that might be considered are what you would like to say to the person or persons who made you feel this way and what pictures come to mind as you feel it. By evaluating and analyzing your feelings in this manner you are better able to acknowledge them, address what is happening in your life and move on.

Another technique is to objectify the emotion by writing a letter to the emotion itself or speaking to it or even drawing it. By objectifying it you will be able to more fully integrate what is happening and understand it from an objective point of view.

Many psychologists and counselors are also recommending that individuals who are struggling with the emotional difficulties and stress maintain a high level of energy by incorporating a proper diet, cardiovascular exercise, seven to eight hours of sleep a night and meditation into their daily living activities. Because our bodies are a conglomeration of energy and electrical synapses we must take great care that we do not overload the system and cause a short. By taking care of our physical bodies we are better able to manage our emotional selves.

If dealing with your emotions on your own has not been successful, it is important to find someone else to speak with. Many people are able to find a close friend or relative with whom they can confide but if this is not a solution in your situation than it is important to find a guidance counselor, pastor, counselor or a psychologist who can help to alleviate your stress.
