Prioritizing Tasks – Part 2

images (47)In order to fully understand how to prioritize the task list it is necessary to consider the consequences of not completing a task. In other words, not all tasks are created equal. One task may have a minimal consequence if it is put off for a couple of extra days while another may be critical to your financial health or the health of your company. In either case, it’s important to put off the tasks that have limited consequences so that the ones which are highly important can be completed first

Most to-do lists are also cluttered with relatively small tasks that require little time but collectively can hang over your head. Every now and then it is important to take a look at your to do list and take off a large number of little things in order to free up your time to concentrate on the big things. Sometimes it is easiest to complete a large number of little things in the latter part of the afternoon, especially when they do not require any creative juices.

Your priorities will change constantly, both in the workplace and at home or in your relationships with others. As a result of this, you need to constantly reassess the to do list and keep it up with your changing situation and priorities. Weekly reassessments are highly reasonable and should keep you on track while daily reassessments are too often and a monthly reassessment is not often enough.
