Your body is exactly what you eat. So, a fad diet of nothing but cabbage or bananas won’t help your body resist disease or illness. Instead this type of eating habit will only create problems for you in the long run.
Next, you’ll need to recognize that there will be some things that you’ll have to cut completely from your life and others that you’ll only be able to eat occasionally. People who eat lots of fruits and vegetables don’t usually struggle with their weight. Instead, you’ll have to start learning to cut out the bread, butter, gravies, fried foods and refined sugar desserts.
While you are getting ready to start a new nutritional plan it’s helpful to remember that as you peel away the pounds you’ll also start to have more energy, fit into your clothes better and just feel better every day. Extra weight will affect your mood, and taking it off will have a positive affect.
Start thinking about what you’ll do to get and stay motivated. Motivation will be a big part of a program while you are making permanent changes to your life. Find a friend or relative who will help you over the rough patches and keep you moving forward. Find a group of friends who can meet with you once a month to offer support and to whom you can turn during the rest of the month when the chocolate cake in the freezer just won’t stop calling your name.
And last, set a realistic goal of weight that you can lose in a realistic time frame. Don’t think that you’ll lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks and then “fall off the wagon” when you lose 2 pounds. Instead, get a good grasp of how well you can change your habits, how quickly you can do that based on previous experiences and resolve not to get so discouraged that you just stop trying.
