Prioritizing Tasks – Part 1

images (44)Entrepreneurs, business managers and stay-at-home moms all strive to maintain and achieve successful time management skills in order to stay as productive as possible. One of those skills is learning how to prioritize their tasks in order to get as much done as possible each day. Time is the most precious commodity for anyone who wants to accomplish the task and prioritizing effectively is essential for success.

At one time or another most of us long for extra hours in the day to complete the projects we believe need to be finished. But completing and managing tasks means working smarter and not longer. Working smarter means learning how to prioritize.

The beginning of prioritizing any task is to start by making a list. You have to know what needs to be completed before you can prioritize what is the most important thing that must be completed today. Many people find it helpful to start by writing down all of their pending projects in no particular order. For now, the most important thing is just to put pen to paper and get a list of everything that needs to be done.

Separate out your projects into several different categories. You will want a list for work, family, home and possibly school. Once you have your project separated in your list it is time to establish due dates. Don’t put down a date based on when you would like to have it completed, instead write down the date when the task is actually required to be completed.

The next step is to decide if any of the tasks on the to do list significantly impacts anyone else’s to do list. This part of the puzzle is most important when you are considering others in a work environment but may not be a consideration at home.
