Setting Goals – Part 1

download (10)Most people are not familiar with how to set appropriate goals. While it might be easy to write down exactly what you would like to accomplish in a specific amount of time these types of goals are not always successfully achieved.

January of any year often finds people writing down two to three goals in each of the following categories: personal finance, relationships, jobs/business, spiritual and personal. Now once those goals have been written you are told to prioritize them and set a date to accomplish each of those goals. Once you have a date work backwards to write down the tasks that you must accomplish in order to achieve those goals by the specific time allowed.

Unfortunately, this type of goal setting only leads to failure. Consider how many Januarys have gone by where you have written goals and July approaches and you haven’t looked at them, December arrives and you have not achieved them. This is because they are overwhelming and out of reach.

Most people really don’t know how to write goals that are achievable, which engenders success as opposed to failure. Setting goals is not all about dreaming about vague scenarios and writing those dreams down on paper. Rather goal setting should be about creating a life vision for yourself where you successfully achieve your goals without any specified time limits.
